Game Goals (Objectives)
Due to the high degree of freedom, the goals may vary from person to person—whether it’s creating an unconventional game or producing a masterpiece single-handedly. However, for those aiming for more challenging objectives, the following often serve as major goals:
- Winning the Grand Prize at the Japan Game Development Awards, held annually.
- Unlocking Kairo-kun, the hidden character.
- Achieving a perfect review score (maximum of 40 points).
- Creating your company’s ultimate gaming hardware.
This article focuses on the strategy to win the Grand Prize at the Japan Game Development Awards.
Game Strategy Overview
The most important element in successfully playing Game Dev Story++ is employee development. Regardless of how unconventional the genre combinations may be, if all your employees are highly skilled, it becomes easy to create Hall of Fame titles and win the Grand Prize at the Japan Game Development Awards.

Early Game Strategy (Starting in the Small Office)
Early Game Strategy (Up to the Small Office)
Here are the four key tasks to focus on during the early game:
① Managing Finances
- Prioritize contract work over game development.
- When developing a game, focus on research-driven projects.
- Contract work is an excellent way to earn money and gather research data.
② Acquiring a Game Console License
- In the third year, the Game Kid console becomes available. Secure the license for it immediately.
- Since the Game Kid remains on sale until December of Year 16, it will suffice for both the early and mid-game stages.
③ Moving to a Medium Office
- Once your total assets exceed 100 million yen, you can relocate. The relocation cost is 60 million yen.
④ Employee Development and Recruitment
- Hire at least one of each: a scriptwriter, a designer, and a sound creator.
- Early on, money will be tight, so hire employees through referrals and focus on moderately training them.
- Invest in leveling up and educating each employee.
⑤ Purchasing from the May Salesperson
- When the salesperson visits in May, only purchase the “Career Change Guide.”
Early Game Strategy Summary
- Focus on contract work.
- Obtain the Game Kid license.
- Save up 100 million yen in total assets and the 60 million yen needed for relocation.

Mid-Game Strategy (Up to the Medium Office)
Here are the three key tasks to focus on during the mid-game:
① Securing Skilled Employees
- In the medium office, you can hire up to six employees.
- Use “Search at Vocational School” or “Hold a Company Information Session” to recruit reliable candidates. Focus on hiring individuals with high stamina, extensive job experience, and strong stats. Below are some recommended candidates.
② Securing Game Genres
- By having employees such as scriptwriters, designers, sound creators, and producers complete at least one training session in their respective professions, you can unlock a wide variety of game genres.
③ Moving to a Large Office
- The conditions for relocating vary depending on the number of years passed. By Year 7, you can naturally move to a large office if you win the Design and Sound Awards at the Game Awards.
Note: Even if you don’t win these awards, the conditions for relocation become more lenient after Year 10.
Mid-Game Strategy Summary
- Secure skilled employees through “Search at Vocational School” or “Hold a Company Information Session.”
- Unlock game genres: Allow each employee to complete at least one training session in their profession to naturally expand your genres.
- Relocate to a large office.

Late-Game: Tasks to Focus on
Here are the four key tasks to tackle in the late-game:
① Hire Three Super Hackers Immediately After Moving to the Large Office
- Use “Search in Hollywood” to find them. Three Super Hackers will appear, so be sure to hire all of them.
② Training the Three Super Hackers
- Level them up and provide training to increase their parameter values.
③ Create Many Masterpiece Games (4 Per Year)
- Focus on producing many masterpiece games. There are various combinations that result in masterpieces, so any will do.
- Aim to create four games per year. The reason is that producing four games annually ensures you win awards other than the Worst Game Award at the Game Development Awards.
Examples of Masterpiece Game Combinations
- RPG × Fantasy
- Puzzle × Reversi
- Simulation × Romance
…and more.
④ Win the Grand Prize at the Game Development Awards
- The Game Development Awards are held annually in December. Strive to win the Grand Prize.
- If your employees’ total parameters are between 1,500 and 2,000, you can easily win the Grand Prize.
